The Teacher Education Division is accepting applications for an adjunct instructor to teach Computers and Technology in Education during the spring 2012 semester.
EDU262 - Course Description
Prospective teachers engage in the theory and practice of integrating targeted and educationally appropriate technology into the teaching and learning process. The course focuses on creating an online extension of the physical classroom where students can extend, share and reflect on their teaching and learning. This is accomplished by creating interactive learning objects and using other free educational technology tools. Topics include: electronic publishing, content creation, screen casting, creating collaborative learning environments, digital citizenship and copyright. Additionally, students will learn how to create a professional and positive digital footprint and become comfortable using technology in their teaching practice.
All general education students take this class as part of the required professional education courses for elementary or secondary programs. Students enrolled in this course take a pre and post Profiler Pro survey that is based on the ISTE National Educational Technology Standards (NETS-T) for Teachers as well as the 7th PSMT standard.
EDU 262 Course Objectives
Technology: Demonstrate an understanding of information age learning and technology operations and concepts by creating an electronic portfolio with artifacts based on the ISTE NETS-T Standards and 7th Standard.
Content: Plan and design relevant technology-enhanced learning environments, lesson plans, activities, and effective assessment/evaluation strategies. Identify and problem-solve technology issues such as equity of access (digital divide), ethical and legal use (copyright and plagiarism), and social and human concerns (diversity of needs, safety, and lifelong learning) so as to adapt and support quality technology experiences for ALL students. The principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) will be infused throughout the coursework and learning.
Basic productivity tools of the educational profession are covered and demonstrated as well. Throughout the course work, presentations and projects, students are exposed to and asked to create presentations, use word processors, and spreadsheets. In addition, students use electronic mail, Learning Management Systems (LMS), Internet-based discussion boards, multi-media to enhance their learning.
Applicants should have a valid teaching license and ten or more years experience as an elementary teacher. Preference will be given to those currently teaching math at the elementary level (K-6). Prior collegiate teaching experience is preferred. Applicants will be contacted if an interview is desired.
