In 1993, received the Chamber Music America and The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers award for adventurous programming.

I bring to the classroom not only technical and academic expertise but also proven real-world experience as an artist and performer.
Of all the classes that you may teach, which one are you most passionate about?
I love working with my ensemble, Red Letter Edition. As the seasons and personnel for the group change, it affords me both the greatest challenges and rewards as an artist and educator.

Where were you born or raised?
Kingston-upon-Hull, Yorkshire, England.
Family information:
I am married to my beautiful wife, Joanne (26 years). We have one grown son, John, a fellow musician and cosmetologist. We had a beautiful golden retriever, Copper, for many years; we now have a Cornish Rex (hairless cat), who is definitely an acquired taste — we call him Mr. Powers.
Interests and Passions Outside of Teaching
I am an active performing musician, playing at Resurrection Life Church and also with the Grand Rapids Guitar Quartet. In my extremely limited spare time, I love to spend time with family, read a good spy novel, take a trip to the beach, watch movies and travel.
Mentors/Role Models
It is too difficult to pick just one, but I admire the classical guitarist John Williams for his life time of consistently high level performance — thanks for inspiring me!
