Courses

What can students expect from your classes? From your division?

Students taking my classes can expect to be pushed to perform at a level that will stretch their abilities to the limit—and they can expect that I’ll be right alongside them encouraging them and supporting them. Doing well requires a huge amount of work and some good native intelligence, but you emerge from the course with a much better understanding of just what you’re capable of. All of our work is an offering to God—I always want to be sure we are giving Him our very best. Other classes in my division operate on the same principle—pushing each other to give to God the firstfruits of our lives.

Of all the classes that you may teach, which one are you most passionate about?

Each one of them is special in its own way. Answering this question would be like answering which of your children you love the most!!

Advice for College Students

You will fail sometimes—know how to deal with it in a way that honors God.

Family Information

Where were you born or raised? (hometown/state)

Grand Rapids, Michigan

Family information (married, children, pets, etc.):

Married since 1985 to Marcy; 5 children (Amy, Christopher, Ariel, Dillan, and Kate; 1 grandson (Hunter); dog (Brandy)

Interests and Passions Outside of Teaching

Outside of teaching I enjoy computer and board gaming, movies, water sports. One of my passions is the creation/evolution controversy and trying to help the church trust the Word of God from beginning to end.

Mentors/Role Models

I most identify with my research advisor in grad school, who modeled for me that family and work are both important, but family more so.
