What can students expect from your classes? From your division?
The learning disabilities program at Cornerstone allows students the opportunity to gain lots of experience within the field of special education. The program teaches students how to provide individualized attention and manage small class sizes while fostering knowledge of the latest trends, terminology and practices in the field. Students increase their marketability by being certified to teach in both general and special education classrooms.
Of all the classes that you may teach, which one are you most passionate about?
My favorite classes to teach are the introduction course and the practicum class. I enjoy these two courses so much because they allow me to see students at the start of their major when the information is new and they are excited, driven and passionate about the major they have chosen. The practicum course, which occurs at the end of the program, allows me to see students shift their mindset from student to teacher. It is a blessing to be able to watch interns spread their wings and “soar” as educators while applying all the information they have learned.
Advice for College Students
If God has called you to be a special education teacher, get ready for the most mentally and emotionally challenging, yet rewarding, job there is!

Where were you born or raised?
I was born in Washington, D.C., and lived in Ohio and Wisconsin before settling in Michigan.

I am married to my best friend, Jim. We have two teenage sons, Logan and Mason.
Interests and Passions Outside of Teaching
I love spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy snowmobiling, reading, baking, playing card games and shopping.
