Audio Production

“That sounds good!” Isn’t that the affirmation we give when we recognize quality and agree about something? You can expect to hear that comment regularly as an Audio Production major! Audio Production is an amazing world of practical and creative storytelling through sound. Can you imagine a life without recorded music, or when movies had no sound, or a time when the “wireless” was a machine rather than an Internet delivery system? So much of our culture connects through the aesthetics and emotional appeal of the production of sound and Cornerstone University is at the forefront of enabling students to influence the airwaves in many interesting forms.

“Audio production is more than some guys fiddling with some buttons in a dim lit setting. It is the chance to be another creative member of the band, the on-air team or the movie production. It is about using your skills to augment others as we make stories that change people."

Degree: Bachelor of Arts

What can I do with this major?

There are three primary graduate outcomes for Audio Production:

1) Music Production – engineering, mixing, mastering and producing music in a recording studio, post-production house, church or other sonic venue.

2) Radio Production – working at or managing a radio station and staying current with technology and process as radio adapts to new formats of distribution

3) Sound Design – post-production audio production for movies and television – fields where sound designers have increased in importance over the past two decades as filmmakers come to understand the potential for storytelling through audio.

Why choose Audio Production at Cornerstone?
Audio production has traditionally been the domain for trade schools. But the benefits of a liberal arts education combined with the practical skills of the studio are vast. First, there’s the chance to hone your craft in well-equipped studios over four-your period – access to equipment and professionals to guide and mentor. Also, you’ll have the ability to problem solve and trouble shoot. Not just equipment, but issues dealing with interpersonal relationships, small business creation and ethics within the industry. You’ll learn to understand audios place in the new cultural landscape. Finally, and most importantly, without a perspective of why God has us on the planet, our thinking skills and our practical skills are to no power. It is our Christian worldview that guides every decision and Cornerstone specializes in equipping student to understand that filter as we seek to influence our culture.
