University: Golden Eagles

Golden EaglesFour Golden Eagles encircle a globe of the world on the top portion of the university mace. These eagles serve a dual purpose – to remind viewers of God’s promise in Isaiah 40 that “those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint,” and to remind viewers of the university’s mascot, the Golden Eagles.

For many years school athletic teams were known as the “Comets,” but since 1994, student-athletes have been called the “Golden Eagles” and have donned uniforms in the school colors – dark blue and gold. An eagle mascot was chosen because of the bird’s spirited image. “Golden” eagles were chosen to distinguish the university’s mascot from the better known patriotic symbolism of the American bald eagle and because “gold” generally connotes quality or great value.
