Dr. Rex M. Rogers

Dr. Rex M. Rogers, President of Cornerstone University

Dr. Rogers served as the President of Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan from 1991 to January, 2008. He continues as Consultant for the university, February, 2008.

Dr. Rogers is the author and voice of the daily radio program and the author of a nationally syndicated newspaper column called “Making a Difference.” Dr. Rogers writes and speaks on contemporary culture and politics, leadership, Christian higher education, and religious issues.

When asked about his personal philosophy of life, Dr. Rogers quotes the phrase, “Proactive Stewardship.” This phrase is rooted in the Parable of the Talents found in Matthew 25, wherein God makes it clear that each person is given talents and expects each person to use those talents to the glory of God. Dr. Rogers says, “Proactive is one of my favorite words. Too often, Christians have been reactive, chasing culture and failing to influence the world as God commanded us to do in both the Cultural Mandate of Genesis 1:28 and the Great Commission of Matthew 28:19-20. Christians should be—I want to be—forward thinking, serving God by helping to transform culture with the Truth God gave to us. That’s one of the reasons I like leadership and why I constantly encourage others to ‘Step Up and Step Out for the Lord.’ Do something. Let people understand your faith by your works. Be proactive.”

Rogers’s vision for Cornerstone University was for the university to become a nationally recognized institution for excellence in developing students’ biblical worldview and leadership skills—and for students who will graduate with a desire to proclaim the lordship of Jesus Christ in all of life, serving, contributing, and influencing their culture and times with Christian truth.

Dr. Rogers is the blessed recipient of a "Christian home,” whose dedicated Christian parents yet serve the Lord, of a Christian higher education that opened his mind and heart to the beauty and power of a biblically Christian worldview, and a loving Christian wife and family.  At six years of age, he placed his faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord, and during college God called him to a life of service as a Christian educator.
