Purpose of Committee

  • Regulatory
    • The IRB will review and monitor research projects which involve human subjects to ensure that two broad standards are upheld: first, subjects are not placed at undue risk; second, that they give un-coerced, informed consent to participants.
    • The IRB will review and monitor all projects involving animals to ensure that they are justified by their benefits and minimize any animal pain or suffering that might occur.
  • Educational and Promotional
    • The IRB will encourage Cornerstone University faculty, staff, and students to engage in appropriate scholarship.
    • The IRB will help Cornerstone University faculty, staff, and students understand the concepts of ethical behavior in research, “doing no harm” and informed consent.
    • The IRB will develop and publish guidelines for the review and monitoring of projects under their jurisdiction.

Application Process:

 

 

  • CU-IRB will meet on the last Thursday, 10 am, on the following months: September, October, November, January, February, March, and April.
  • Approved applications are good for only one year from the date of approval.  For renewal options, contact the chair of CU-IRB.

Applications must include the following:

  • Proposal Cover Sheet
  • CU-IRB Approval Request Form
  • Informed Consent (guidelines and examples)
  • On-line training certificate 
    • On-line Training required of all investigators.  Training can be found at  http://ohrp-ed.od.nih.gov/CBTs/Assurance/login.asp Login, read each page and click “continue” on the left side until you reach the Table of Contents. Choose module 2 “Investigator Responsibilities and Informed Consent.  Complete the module and print out the certificate.  The certificate must be forward to the Director of Institutional Research and Assessment, Rebecca Wolfe. 

All Approval Request Forms must be emailed electronically to the CU-IRB chair, Dr. Linda Haveman, at Linda_Haveman@cornerstone.edu, two weeks prior to board meetings dates. 

Hard copies of signed Proposal Cover Sheets are to be delivered to Dr. Linda Haveman, Professional and Graduate Studies Building, one week prior to board meeting dates.
