Description:

The English program seeks to introduce students to the important literature of world culture with an aim of developing them into effective and ethically responsible communicators, writers, and leaders who can understand moral choices and can design, express, interpret, and evaluate written literature in light of a Christian world and life view.

What types of students succeed in this program?

Students who excel in the field of English are those who enjoy reading and are generally creative and artistic.  The English program is broad to include those who enjoy reading and analyzing literature, those who enjoy expressing their creativity through writing, and those who desire to teach others. 

What can I do with this major or minor?

With a major in English you are able to teach English literature and writing.  You can also work in the publishing field as a writer or editor.  You can also be prepared to work as a poet or writer.  An English major is also great preparation for graduate school studies in literature, cultural studies, or linguistics.

What are some of internships or partnerships with this program?

Possible internships include positions with publishing houses (both local and international), local media firms, local schools (both public and private), teaching English internationally.

What is the future outlook with a degree in this area?

The field of English continues to grow, especially internationally.  English is the major language of the arts, literature, commerce, and popular culture.
