Description:

Linguistics is the study of language.  Students within the linguistics program will explore the structure and use of language.  Language study will be applied to the teaching and learning of language.

What types of students succeed in this program?

A linguistics student is one who is interested in language.  Some are interested in the inner workings of the structure of language.  Others are interested in how language is used and applied in society.

What can I do with this major or minor?

A linguistics minor is appropriate for those students who are interested in further study in foreign languages or linguistics.  The linguistics minor also complements study in intercultural studies, missions, psychology, sociology, and education.

What are some of internships or partnerships with this program?

Possible internships include working with Bible translation organizations, missions organizations, teaching English or a foreign language internationally, working with the literacy council.

What is the future outlook with a degree in this area?

The field of linguistics is an emerging field with connections in several areas such as education, missions, cognitive science, and forensic science.
