Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

What types of students succeed in this program?

Students who do well in TESOL are those who enjoy interacting with other cultures.  TESOL is a great tool for those interested in missions work, both here in the US and abroad.

What can I do with this major or minor?

Students with a TESOL minor with a teaching degree can earn an endorsement in teaching ESL in the State of Michigan.  Those in non-teaching majors can take a TESOL minor to qualify as a paraprofessional in a public school, to work at a non-profit or ministry organization, local church outreach, or foreign missions work.

What are some of internships or partnerships with this program?

Possible internships include positions in public and private schools, church ESL programs, non-profit organizations, missions agencies.

What is the future outlook with a degree in this area?

The field of TESOL continues to grow as the demand for English classes worldwide grows.  TESOL is a major tool for missions work internationally and for local church outreach locally.  ESL programs in our education system also need qualified ESL teachers.
