AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
Select the type of audition for which you will be preparing:

MUSICIANSHIP EXAMINATIONS
In addition to the audition, all incoming music majors take two general musicianship exams: music theory and sight-singing.  (Please note: music minors and those seeking participant scholarships are not required to take these exams.)

Music Theory Exam: A written exam covering general music literacy.  Each auditionee is given 30 minutes to complete this exam.  Elements include pitch notation, clef reading, major and minor key signatures, major and minor scales, rhythmic notation, and time signatures.

Sight-Singing Exam: This is a short assessment of the applicant’s musical ear.  Students will be asked to match pitch inside and outside of their range, sing major and minor scales, sing musical patterns and, sight read in treble and bass clefs.

RECORDED AUDITIONS
Students for whom performing an on-campus audition is prohibitive (for example international students), may request to submit their video auditions via the internet or on a high quality DVD (No audio recordings permitted). Please send your requests to: music@cornerstone.edu

AUDITION ACCOMPANISTS
No pre-recorded accompaniments are accepted for any solo vocal or instrumental audition. Applicants requiring an accompanist are strongly encouraged to bring their own; however, a staff accompanist is available upon request. Applicants requesting a staff accompanist must include photocopies of their audition selections and a staff accompanist fee of $10.00 (personal checks only) with the audition application form. Applicants have an opportunity to rehearse with the staff accompanist prior to the audition.
