ADMISSION INTO THE MUSIC PROGRAM
Students in all degree programs must perform standard freshman-level repertoire, as defined by the music department, with acceptable technical accomplishment, for admission into the music department as a major. Auditions for admission are held during the academic year before the freshman year. Auditions performed before March 1, 2010 will constitute an audition for a music scholarship if the student so desires. All prospective students unable to audition during the academic year must audition for admission into the music program at the beginning of the fall semester. Transfer students beginning their studies in the spring semester must audition before or at the beginning of that semester.
On the basis of the audition, the music department will either accept or deny the student admission into the program. In some instances, students may be accepted on a probationary basis. If a student is not accepted into the program, that student has two additional opportunities to re-audition, and can enroll in freshman-level music major courses.
All transfer students must take music theory and aural perception placement examinations in order to determine transferability of prior coursework. Incoming freshman with prior theoretical training have the option of taking music theory and aural perception placement exams in order to waive any Cornerstone University courses.
