Piano Auditions
All pianists seeking entrance into the music program and/or scholarship monies must perform the following:
- All major and minor scales and arpeggios, four octaves.
- At least two selections from the following: (All selections must be memorized.)
- J.S. Bach: Invention, Sinfonia or Prelude & Fugue
- Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven: a sonata movement
- A nineteenth-century piece by Chopin, Schumann, Brahms, Mendelssohn, etc.
- An impressionistic or twentieth-century piece (Debussy, Bartók, Prokofieff, etc.)
- Sight-reading
PERFORMANCE (CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIAN MUSIC) MAJORS
- All requirements stated above
- Two contrasting commercial style pieces (ballad and up-tempo)
- Be prepared to demonstrate your ability to sight-read from a chord chart
B.A. MUSIC (WORSHIP ARTS) MAJORS
- All requirements stated above, except one classical selection
- Two contrasting commercial style pieces (ballad and up-tempo)
- Be prepared to demonstrate your ability to sight-read from a chord chart
RECORDED AUDITIONS
Students for whom performing an on-campus audition is prohibitive (for example international students) may request to submit their video auditions via the internet or on a high quality DVD (no audio recordings permitted). Please send your requests to: music@cornerstone.edu
