Tutors

Can anyone get a tutor?

Tutoring is available free of charge to any Cornerstone University traditional undergraduate student. Peer tutoring is not available through the Learning Center for Seminary and PGS students.

How do I get a tutor?

  • Fill out a tutor request form available here or at the front desk of the Learning Center. The forms must be filled out completely, along with available time slots throughout the week.
  • Your professor must sign the form before returning it to the Learning Center office.
  • After your request form has been received, you will be assigned a peer tutor and notified of the day and time for your tutoring sessions.
  • All information is kept strictly confidential. For example, being tutored will not appear on your college record. Tutoring sessions are private and one-on-one unless group tutoring is requested.

Are tutors available for every course?

Tutors are available for most courses. The Tutor Coordinator works closely with professors who provide recommendations of students who have successfully mastered the course material and who would be good at assisting peers as a tutor.

Do I have to be failing a class to get tutored?

No! Students ask for tutoring assistance for various reasons. Students want to review course content and concepts to improve their grade and to improve performance on exams and assignments.

If I sign up for tutoring, how often would I be expected to meet with a tutor?

Tutor sessions are scheduled once a week with a tutor in a specific subject for one hour. If more time is needed, talk with the tutor and the Tutor Coordinator.

How do I stop tutoring if I find I no longer need the assistance of a tutor?

Inform both your tutor and the Tutor Coordinator of any changes that need to be made.

Is there a deadline for requesting a tutor?

Tutor Request Forms will not be accepted during the last three weeks of the semester.

How do I become a tutor?

Tutors must be a sophomore, junior or senior in the traditional undergraduate program with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Qualified candidates will demonstrate a willingness to help other students, and the ability to communicate the material well. Fill out the tutor application and reference forms, then drop them off at the Learning Center to begin the process.
