Anna Rapa B.A. '00
Your Story
Anna graduated from Cornerstone University in 2000; following graduation she spent several years working with at-risk youth providing social work and religious work for her clients and their families. After several years of seeing poverty and injustice at a ground level, she decided to become an attorney to find a practical way to impact some of the unjust systems her clients faced on a daily basis.
In her final year of law school, Anna formed The Carter-Alexander Institute for Law and Justice. It is focused on challenging the next generation of law and undergraduate students to participate in changing the world by conducting research about social issues, writing scholarly papers and seeking structural or systemic change within the community. Some of the things they've done is bring a Michigan Supreme Court Justice to Grand Rapids to speak to the community and run a 2-year pilot program for a community Teen Court. Anna graduated from law school first in her class, and she now practices mostly court-appointed criminal defense, teaches as an adjunct professor at a local law school, and directs the nonprofit in her spare time.
After several years working in the secular world, Anna has discovered some really important things about evangelism in today's context and people's emotional barriers to faith in Christ. She's written and created several resources to help educate and equip the church to reach the world with the gospel through her small publishing company, Da[w]bar House Press.
