Derek Kingshott recently signed a Letter of Intent with the Cornerstone University Men’s basketball team. Kingshott, who was a red-shirt player on the Hillsdale College football team this past season, will exchange his helmet and pads for a basketball uniform for the 09-10 season.
Kingshott, the younger brother on CU’s All-American center Matt Kingshott, will team up with his brother for the first time since they captured the OK Green Conference basketball title in 2006 at Zeeland West High School.
Kingshott, a National Honor Society student with a 4.05 GPA, was named 1st Team All-Conference his senior year. He also earned BCAM All-State honors in 2008 while averaging 11 PPG, 6 RPG and 5 APG. He scored 11 points in the BCAM All-Star game that summer.
A three sport star, Kingshott led his team to the football State Championship in Division 4 in 2006. He was named to the Grand Rapids Press Dream Team as a defensive safety/tight end and earned All-State football honors that year as well. Kingshott missed seven football games his senior year after breaking his leg. He also was part of two state championship relay teams (3200 & 1600) in track as a senior. Both relay teams established new school records in these events.
The 6-4 power forward will give the Golden Eagles added strength in the post. He also has the ability to step outside and knock down 3-point shots.
“We’re excited to have Derek join our team. He’s a quality young man and has a terrific work-ethic like his brother. He’s strong, athletic and has the ability to play in the post as well as go out on the perimeter. Derek is a great addition to our program,” says Head Coach Kim Elders.

Saladino broke four school records hitting 76 three's in a season, hitting 8 three's in one game, 87.9% from the FT line and 84.6 for his career from the FT line.
Saladino lead the Rangers to two conference championships, one district championship and one regional title. He was named All-Conference, All-Area and to the Dream Team Honorable-Mention team.
Coach Elders
“We love Joey because he’s such a hard-working young man with a tremendous attitude and personality. He’s an outstanding player who will fit into our system very well. He’s a tremendous perimeter shooter, so we expect him to extend the defense and open things up inside for our post players. We’re excited to have Joey in our program.”
Why he chose Cornerstone
"I chose Cornerstone because when I visited it seemed like a great learning environment, I love the team and the coaches. Overall, it felt like a perfect fit."

Coach Elders
“We’re excited to have Bryan in our program. We recruited him hard out of High School but he chose to go elsewhere. He will be a great fit on our team. He’s a tough, hard-nosed kid who won’t back down from anything. Bryan has a work ethic that is second to none.”
