MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

Cornerstone Eighth at Michigan Intercollegiate Championships

Oct 9, 2009

(Grand Rapids, MI) A week’s worth of rain softened the course at the Calvin College Gainey Athletic Complex, the site of the annual Michigan Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships. The preceding women’s 5,000 meter race turned the soft ground into ankle deep mud in several places.

After running with the leaders for nearly four miles, Zach Ripely lost his footing going up a steep muddy embankment. He quickly closed the gap to the back of the group and held on for sixth in 25:27. Alex Green, along with Ripley finished in the awards taking 16th in 25:53.

Stephan Larson took 66th in 27:00 followed by freshman, Cody Risch’s 27:33 PR in 100th place. Billy Carl finished in 106th at 27:36.

The Golden Eagles totaled 248 points to finish eighth out of 25 teams. The University of Michigan won with 32 points.
