The 2nd Annual Golden Eagle Golf outing will be held on August 21st at The Golf Club @ Thornapple Point. This annual fundraiser run by the Men's Golf Team features a 4-person scramble with a steak dinner to follow. The proceeds from the event go directly to the golf team and their spring trip in preparation for theupcoming season. The CU men's golf team had its share of ups and downs this spring and the Region VIII Tournament @ Rock Hollow Golf Club in Indiana was no different. Playing as a potential national Qualifier, the Golden Eagles couldnt muster up enough good shots in the first two rounds as the season and career for three seniorscame to an end. After a solid spring season, the men's golf team ended its regular tournament schedule on a high, finishing one shot behind Hope College at the Furniture City Classic. The tournament, which features West Michigan area colleges was played at L.E. Kaufman Golf Club in Grand Rapids. The Dutchmen took the team title with a score of 310 with the Golden Eagles at 311. The CU men's golf team is off to a solid start to the spring season for 2006. After winning the Siena Heights Invite last week, the Golden Eagles used two solid rounds at Zollner Golf Club in Indiana to post a 4th place finish in the Bill Gettig Invite hosted by Tri-State University. CU shot rounds of 307-301 for a two-day total of 608, which was 17 shots behind 1st place Tri-State. On a cold a blustery day, the Cornerstone men's golf team was able to come home with some hardware in their first tournament of the spring season. The Golden Eagles defeated WHAC rival Aquinas and Division III teams Hope College and Tri-State by shooting a team score of 319. The team, without any of its seniors, played with only four players, meaning that every score countedtowards the final total. The Cornerstone Men's golf team retained the Beltline Cup for the second straight time this past weekend as they downed the Calvin Knights 10 1/2 - 2 1/2. The match is a copy of the famed Ryder Cup between USA and Europe and is played at each team's home course. On the first day at Thousand Oaks, CU took all three of the Best Ball Points and 2 of the Alternate Shot Points. Brodie Hock was named to the 2005 WHAC Honorable Mention All-Conference Team. For the season he tallied 466 strokes for a 77.7 average. Aquinas swept the honors as they finished as team champions with a 78 stroke advantage over the rest of the WHAC schools.
