Golden Eagles Late Goal Leads to 1-0 Victory Over Davenport

Sep 9, 2009

The Cornerstone men evened their conference record at 1-1 with a 1-0 win over visiting Davenport on Wednesday.  With less than 2 minutes remaining in the game, it appeared an overtime session would be needed to give either team more time to find the net.

Just as showers started to fall in the waning minutes of the game, Jacob Stanko hit Matt Osorio with a cross pass that he fired into the back of the net for the game winner.  Osorio picked up his first goal of the season while Stanko tallied the assist.

Throughout the first 88 minutes of the game, players from both teams kept the intensity high with physical play all around while both goalkeepers battled off potential goals to keep the game scoreless.  Golden Eagle Dan Kerstan improved his record to 1-2 and recorded three saves on the day.  Cornerstone outshot Davenport 11-9 to collect their second win of the season.

The 2-5 Golden Eagles will look to keep their winning streak alive on the road as they begin a month long stint without a home game.  Cornerstone will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Ann Arbor to take on the Cardinals of Concordia at 2:30 pm.
