Jonah Stacy

Cornerstone University men’s soccer head coach Mark Bell is excited to announce that Forest Hills Central Senior Jonah Stacy (Grand Rapids, MI) has decided to attend and play for Cornerstone University in the fall of 2008. “Jonah comes from a great soccer family and brings a tremendous pedigree of success to our program. I am confident that Jonah will have an immediate impact on our campus as well as our program. I believe Jonah is one of the top mid/forwards in Michigan and we are excited to see where his career takes him. Jonah is an outstanding student athlete and has a proven record for putting the ball in the net with 55 goals 59 assists (through senior season).


Jonah was Varsity all high school years…. Freshmen year was member of D1 State Champion Team (11 goals 13 assists)... Sophomore year All-Conference, All-District D1 (14 goals 14 assists)… Junior year was All-Conference, All-District, All-Area, All-Region, and All-State (20 goals 22 assists). He is currently having another outstanding year for FHC with 10 goals and 12 assists …played club soccer with U18 GRASA that won State Cup as well as Kalamazoo Kingdom U-20 Reserve team that competed in U20 Nationals. Jonah is the son of Mark and Karen Stacy and wants to major in Education.


The Golden Eagles will be graduating 5 members of the 2006 WHAC Regular Season and Tournament Championship team. Trevor Christie (Def, 2 –time Academic All American), Brent Grube (GK, 12 career Shutouts), Sam Oberlin (Fwd, 30 career goals), Brad Verburg (Mid/F, 20 career goals), and Patrick Wilson (Def, All American-HM) are departing seniors that have had a major impact on this program over the last four years. In 2007, the Golden Eagles had their lowest goal production in over 10 years (28 goals scored). Jonah is a wonderfully technical player who can break down teams in many ways and we are looking forward to Jonah immediately improving our attack.

 

Dan Kerstan

“We have been working on getting Dan to Cornerstone for quite some time and it is a great privilege to welcome him to the Golden Eagle family. We got a chance to see Dan play in 2006 at the Chicago Sockers FC Annual College Showcase. Golden Eagle Alumnus Justin Breckan (2-time All American-HM) recommended that we come take a look at Dan and we are glad we did. Dan is going to help fill the void left by graduating senior goalkeeper Brent Grube.

Dan’s playing career includes playing with Sockers FC Chicago under Coach Mike Richardson from 2002 to present…in 2004-06 Illinois ODP GK Academy…2004-06 Sockers FC Chicago Top Talent program…Dan currently plays in Metro League… played for Red Bull National League 17…Midwest Regional League-Premier Division…US Club Soccer Super Y-League…Illinois State Cup Tournament 2004-07…US Club Soccer Regional Championships- July 2006…US Club Soccer National Champions -August 2006…USYSA Regional Championships (Region 2)-2007…Sockers FC Chicago-Men’s U23 Summer League…2007 Green White Soccerfest Tournament-Men’s Division Champions…Premier and Showcase Tournaments include the Dallas Cup, Blue Chip Showcase, Disney Showcase, and Nike Friendlies…participated in missions trips to Mendenhall, Mississippi in 2006 and 2007…member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes…He is the son of Sheri and Peter Kerstan .

 

Andrew Boyko

 

Cornerstone University Men's Soccer would like to welcome Andrew Boyko to the team.  Andrew has played both a defending and midfielder role for Farmington High School, who was 13-8-0 last year and won 2007 City Championship…in 2007 Andrew was voted Best Team Player…in 2006 won Coaches Award as well as Most Improved…2005 played JV and was Capt, Best Hustle and Best Team Player…2004 won Coaches Award…played 2 years of Varsity Lacrosse and 2 years of JV Lacrosse… played Premier with Farmington Soccer Club… Andrew has a great opportunity to step in and have an immediate impact with the graduation of our two starting center backs, Trevor Christie and Patrick Wilson. I feel that Andrew is going to make a great contribution to our program. He has good size, speed and willing to work hard.

 

David DeBoer

 

Cornerstone University would like to welcome David DeBoer to the men's soccer team.  Dave transferred in to Cornerstone this fall and expressed interest in being part of our program. He has an excellent resume both on and off the field. He graduated from Grand Rapids South Christian in 2003…lettering 3 years in soccer with All Conference, All District, All Region, & All State HM accolades… Played basketball all 4 years, with a Class B state Championship (2003) as well as Runner up (2002)…Played club for Grand Valley Premier, team finishing 2nd in Region in National League…Started academic college career at Grand Valley State University majoring in Physical Education K-12, minoring in Health…Took time off for missions with Youth With A Mission in May of 2004 in Kailua Kona, Hawaii & Auckland, NZ…also served in SW Louisiana and Burkina Faso, Africa…stayed involved in high school soccer, refereeing and was the Boy's Varsity Assistant Coach at South Christian in 2006 and 2007…winning 2 Conference Championships as well as an appearance in 2007 Boys State Finals… Future plans include teaching Physical Education at the secondary level & coaching soccer…son of Ben and Rita DeBoer of Byron Center


Adeshola Makinde Jr

 

“Junior is another player that we connected with at 2006 Chicago Sockers’ FC Annual College Showcase. The more we got to know Junior, the more we knew what a great fit he would be for our program. Junior is an outstanding attacking forward with good size and speed. I believe Junior will bring a spark to our offense with the graduation of the last year’s leading scorers. He finished his high school career with 40 goals and 20 assists. In his senior year, he was the top goal scorer of Northern Illinois with 28 goals and also had 12 assists… named co-captain his senior year. .. was named All-Sectional, All-Area Northwest Herald, All-Area Daily Herald, and Unanimous All-Conference in 2007….scored 11 goals in 2006… Junior played under Coach Pat O’Brien at Hampshire High School and Greg Guff for Fox Valley Strikers…He is the son of Tola and Shola Makinde...


Dan Alden

 

Dan Alden…5’10” 165lbs…Defender…Three Oaks, MI/River Valley HS
3-year starter and letter-winner for River Valley High School…Junior year was All District…scored 8 goals during his Senior year to earn All District and All Conference honors…honored by his teammates with Hardest Worker/Hustle award… his High School Coach, Shawn Beach recommended Dan for his character and for his positive leadership.

Bell on Alden: Dan was brought to our attention through a former River Valley teammate and current CU student, Caleb Dryden. We saw Dan play at our Recruit Weekend and really liked what we saw. Dan is young man that will bring heart and athleticism to our back line. With the graduation of our two center backs (Trevor Christie and Patrick Wilson), will look to compete for a starting spot in the back. Most importantly, though, I think Dan is a great fit for us on the field and in the classroom.

Derek Vlietstra

Derek Vlietstra….6’ 175lbs…Goalkeeper…Zeeland, MI/Zeeland West HS

Derek will be graduating from Zeeland West High School this spring... played at Zeeland Christian and started as goalkeeper…sophomore year of high school was on the JV team… was the team captain and was voted MVP for the season…. junior year of high school played in 5 games and suffered a season ending injury against rival, Zeeland East High School… suffered a tib-fib fracture that needed surgery consisting of a rod and three screws…. Senior year, worked hard to come back as a starter once again and had a great season with a very young team…spring break of sophomore year went on a mission trip to Florida to help with hurricane relief.…currently a member of First Reformed Church in Holland, MI… hobbies include car detailing, snow skiing, and riding sea-doo in the summer months… the son of Scott & Marcia Vlietstra… has an older sister, Heather…plans to major in Business Management.

Bell on Derek: We know Derek is a tough competitor and a very good goalkeeper. His addition will give us great depth at the GK position. He will have the opportunity to fill the shoes of graduating keeper, Brent Grube (2nd Team All Region in 06-’07). It will be very competitive with 3 new keepers coming in to camp.

Eric Parks

Eric Parks…6’…170lbs…Forward….Ada, MI/Forest Hills Eastern HS

Attended Forest Hills Eastern High School in Ada, MI….in 2005 was named All District, All Conference, All Region, and All State (1st Team)…scored 23 goals with 10 assists as a sophomore… in 2005 helped FHE to a District Championship, Regional Championship and State Finals ….in 2007was named All District, All Conference, All Region and All State (1st Team)….current record holder for goals per season at 29 ….in 2007 helped FHE achieve 1st in Conference and 1st in Region honors…from 2004-2007 played Club soccer with Michigan Wolves 91’….was part of Wolves team that won State Cup in 2004,2005, 2006, and 2007….Midwest Region 2 winners in 2005-07….Regional winners in 2007….National Semi-finals in 2007….Michigan ODP from 2003-05…SYL ODP in 2004…has volunteered as a coach and mentor with Grand Rapids Inner City Soccer and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society….wants to major in Business Advertising….son of Diane Parks

Bell on Parks: Eric is a very good athlete. He’s a quick forward who makes very good tactical runs and can finish. Eric has the tools to be a very college soccer player and we think he will greatly improve our offense in 2008. Eric will be reunited with FHE teammate Zac Tolsma in 2008.

Zac Tolsma

Zac Tolsma…5’8”…130lbs…Def/Midfielder…Ada, MI/Forest Hills Eastern HS

4-year starter and letter-winner at Forest Hills Eastern…Named to the All-Conference Team 3 years…Named to the All-District Team 3 years…Named to the All-Region Team 1 year…Named to the All-State Team 1 year…Played and started in 94 varsity games at FHE (school records)….Scored 18 goals in junior season…Played defense as a Freshman, Sophomore & Senior…Team captain Senior year…2005 Division 3 Runner-up (lost to Detroit Country Day)…2007 Division 2 Semi-Finals (lost to Unity Christian)…Won 3 OK Conference Championships…Helped FHE to a 40-8-3 record the last 2 seasons…brother Nic is a junior on the men’s soccer team…son Kim and Holly Elders

Bell on Tolsma: Zac has good feet, good skills, and makes good decisions with the ball. He is a versatile player that I think can come in and compete for a spot anywhere in the midfield or across the back.

Bradley Erickson

Bradley Erickson…..6’3”….170lbs…Hudsonville, MI/Hudsonville HS


Played Varsity for Hudsonville High School since his sophomore year….Senior season was highlighted by 9 shutouts and a .75 GAA (both school records), 115 saves…earned Most Improved honors from his Coaches and teammates…named to All District team in 2007…led team to a 11-7 record in 2007…Hudsonville High School Coach Mark Mulder commended “Brad for his defensive leadership and attributed Brad’s performance this past season as a vital piece of Hudsonville having one of it’s most successful years in school history. Brad has incredible quickness for a keeper his size, an uncanny ability to reach corners and the instinct to be in the right place at the right time. His passion for the game has allowed him to become such a force in the goal.”…played club soccer with Georgetown Rangers from U10-U18…son of Dave and Anne Erickson…wants to major in Biology/Health Sciences

Bell on Erickson: Brad is a young man with great character and passion for not only competing at the highest level but doing it in a way that honors God and the gifts he has given him. He is going to come in to the most competitive GK situation we have had in my time here. We are looking forward to see Brad bring that passion and fire every day in training and on game day.

Alan Doornbos

Alan Doornbos….5’7”…163lbs…Midfield/Forward….Byron Center, MI/South Christian High School

Played and started two years of varsity soccer for South Christian High School…. was a co-captain senior year… awarded All-Conference, All-District, All-Region, and Honorable Mention All-State for team that made it to State Finals …son of Dean and Ruth Doornbos…. has five siblings, one sister named Sheila, and four brothers named Eric, Kyle, Kevin, and Ryan….Hobbies include hunting, fishing, basketball with friends, and playing PS2…. Favorite Bible verse is John 14:15.

Coach Bell on Alan: After watching Alan play in the State finals and a couple of campus visits, I was impressed with Alan’s athleticism and work ethic. He is very hard working midfielder and he comes from an excellent program. I know he can bring that excellence in to our program as we do some rebuilding in our midfield and attack.

 

Brett Crooks

Played and lettered in Varsity soccer at Rochester Hills Christian School from 9th through 12th grades…. captain for Junior and senior years….Team MVP Sophomore, Junior & Senior years…..Named to 1st Team All Conference both Junior and Senior years….Senior year scored 23 goals with 15 assists (61 points)…. Played select club soccer for four years with the Michigan Metro Stars… Named MVP of Eagle Cup Tournament with 7 goals in the tournament…. ….member of ODP team for one year….1st Team All Conference in basketball Senior year…1st Team All Conference in baseball Junior year….son of Bob and Karen Crooks.

Coach Bell on Brett: Brett brings talent, character, athleticism and speed to our roster. He has a bright future ahead of him and we are excited to see what he’s capable of.

Justin Begley



Justin Begley….6’0”…170lbs….Midfielder….Brampton, ON, Canada/Fletcher’s Meadow Secondary School

Served as Captain of Fletcher’s Meadow Secondary School from 2005-07…2007 Team MVP…2007 League Cup MVP…2007 League Cup Champions…U16 ROPSAA Top Goal scorer….U16 ROPSAA Soccer MVP…currently plays for Woodbridge Soccer Club –OYSL (Provincial)…2006 played for Kleinberg Soccer Club (U21)-Men’s Provincial…U15 League Cup Champions…U15 League Champions….Assistant Coach for Junior Boys Soccer team…competed in Track and Field as well…ran 400m, 1500m and Cross Country for Fletcher’s …2004-2006…Academic Honor Roll…acted in a number of School and Community Drama productions…Youth leader and camp counselor…Sunday school teacher…has own Auto Detailing Business-“Best Price Auto Detailing”….son of Frank and Pam Begley …has 2 younger sisters

Coach Bell on Begley: Justin is a great addition to the 2008 team. Justin is solid on the ball, a very good head on his shoulders, and always looking for the ball. He can play anywhere in the midfield and could easily move forward in to the attack. Justin will bring a much needed spark to our midfield. His presence should be felt as he works to jumpstart our attack in 2008.

Jim is transferring in from Univ. MI and is looking to study in our Youth Ministry program. Jim did exceptionally well at both of our Recruit events. I think he will fit in nicely in the midfield or could easily step in as a defender.
