Women's Team Picked Fourth in WHAC Preseason Poll

Oct 5, 2009

Davenport University gathered 63 points to sit atop the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Women's Basketball Preseason Poll. Aquinas College landed at No. 2 in the conference with Madonna University in third.

DU, the defending regular-season champions, was continually ranked in the top five nationally and advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2008-09 NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship. The Panthers return all five starters from a 31-3 team, including WHAC Player of the Year and All-American Kallie Benike who returns for her junior year. Honorable Mention All-American Kristi Boehm will also lend leadership to a team with depth. In addition to returning its starting five, DU returns its tip 11 out of 12 players.

Aquinas posted its fifth 20+ win season in 2008-09 and will look for its sixth this year with the help of Joslyn Narber and her 17 points and six rebounds per game. The Third-Team All-American will be joined by fellow starters Logan Marsh and Kaitlin Lang. The Saints finished third in the conference during the regular season and lost in the opening round of the national tournament after qualifying with an at-large bid.

Madonna returns three starters from its 15-17 team of a year ago. All-Conference performer Kim Olech leads the way along with Tabatha Wydryck. The two combined for 22 points and 15 rebounds per game. The Crusaders are blessed with depth as they sport their largest roster in quite a few years.
