WOMEN'S SOCCER
The Cornerstone Women's soccer team moved up into fourth place in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) today after a 2-1 victory against Madonna. "We live to see one more day," said Coach Randy Strawser. Thirty minutes into the first half, Senior Amy Vanderbent scored from about 20 yards on a quick shot that caught the Madonna keeper off guard . Madonnna's Kaila Moore tied the score when she sent the ball to the corner of Bruinning's net about fifteen minutes into the second half. Less than ten minutes later, Amanda Dudiak put the Golden Eagles back in the lead with a one time shot from the top of the box that hit the upper left corner of the net. The Golden Eagles increased their chances of getting into the WHAC tournament with the win today. A CU loss today would have put Madonna into the playoffs. "We have to win from here on out," said Strawser. The top four teams in the WHAC will procede to semifinals Nov. 7. Two regular season games remain for the Golden Eagles. This Saturday, Oct. 31, they will face non-conference Marygrove at 12:00pm. On Nov. 3, the Golden Eagles will take on Aquinas at 3:00 p.m. at home. A Golden Eagle victory against Aquinas will secure the 4th and final playoff spot for Cornerstone.
