Junior goalkeeper Julianne Bruining (South Christian H.S.)was named the WHAC Defensive player of the week after posting a 5-0 shutout vs. Davenport and a 1-1 (2OT) tie with Aquinas. Bruining has 81 saves and has a .93 goal average for the season.
The Golden Eagles started out a little slow against Aquinas today on a cold wet day on Cornerstone's field. The Golden Eaglesgave up an early goal to the Saints in the 15th minute but they responded with a goal of their own in the 24th minute to tie the score. Head women's soccer coach Randy Strawser reached the 100 win milestone on Tuesday, October 21. His team defeated Davenport University 5-0 to give him his 100th win in 9 seasons as head coach. Strawser's overall record at CU is 100-59-14 which includes a Region VIII championship and first ever trip to the NAIA national tournament in 2007. In addition he was also named WHAC Coach of the Year in 2003 and 2006. Coach Strawser came to Cornerstone from Westmont College where he served as an instructor of Kinesiology …
The game was scoreless after the 1st half with CU holding a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal. It wasn't until the 60th minute when Jessica Brussee scored that the Golden Eagles could breath a sigh of relief. Brussee recieved a through ball from Hillary Baker, touched the ball once and blasted a shot by the GK for the winning goal. College, Bruininghad nine saves in 78 minutes and recorded another five saves in a 3-2 victory against Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) University. The Golden Eagles improved to 2-1 overall.
