Cornerstone Coaching Staff Honored

Jim Farrell and his staff (Amber Jost, Mary Mauro, & Mindy Rader) were named NFCA Great Lakes Region (Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, & Wisconsin) Staff of the Year. Farrell and his staff led Cornerstone to a seventh trip to the NAIA Region VIII tournament and a third national tournament berth since 2000. The Golden Eagles finished the season with a 27-23 mark, claiming the Region VIII tournament title.

Cornerstone will be going back to the NAIA National Softball Tournament again after defeating Madonna 9-1 in the Championship game this afternoon. The Warriors won Game 1 (7-4) but the Golden Eagles bounced back to win Game 2 (3-1). Sophomore Leah Gruppen was named WHAC Pitcher-Of-The-Week for March 14th. The Zeeland, MI native posted a 7-0 record while striking out 28 hitters, walking just two and posting a 0.90 ERA. Her perfect week pushed her season record to 10-0. The Golden Eagles finished their Florida trip with a 10-2 record. Jim Farrell was honored by the NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) at the NFCA National Convention held in Orlando, FL. Farrellwas presented with a certificatefor reaching 100 victoriesas a head coach this past season. Farrell also recognized for earning his "4 Star" Certification through the National Fastiptch Coaches College.
