Since the year 2000, CU softball has made seven consecutive trips to the NAIA Region VIII Tournament, has played in 6 of those Regional Final games, and has advanced to the NAIA National Tournament three times. There is no doubt that Cornerstone Softball is here to play. We have proven that we can play with the best. But there is always room to improve. And that is what we hope to do this year…to take our game to the next level. “We truly believe with hard work and God’s blessing that even greater things lie ahead for this program.” – Jim Farrell
Coach Farrell comes into this season, his 14th with the Cornerstone University Women’s Softball Program, as head coach. Farrell has served the program as an assistant coach for 8 years and as co-head coach with Kim Zainea for two years.
The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has recently recognized Farrell as a “4 Star Master Coach”. He is one of few members of the first graduating class from the National Fastpitch Coaches College. He is a graduate of Cornerstone University with a B.A. in Physical Education. Currently, he lives in Grand Rapids with his lovely wife Shari, and their three sons David, John, and Ben.

Mary Mauro is in her third year on the staff of the Cornerstone Softball team as the pitching coach. Her wealth of knowledge and experience serves as a great foundation for mentoring our current pitching staff.
Mary played her junior and senior seasons at CU after transferring from Lansing Community College, where she was part of the national championship team in 2002. Mary’s commitment to conditioning and hard work on her pitching played a major role in Cornerstone’s return to the NAIA national tournament in 2004. She has won numerous awards, including 2004 WHAC Conference Pitcher of the Year, and 2004 Region 8 player of the year. Mary’s love for God and for her team, along with her excellent abilities as a pitching instructor, continues to make her a valuable part of the Cornerstone Softball Program.

Mindy Rader is back for her second year on the softball coaching staff. Mindy had a great softball career at the shortstop position for CU, illustrated by such accomplishments as: .325 career batting average; average of 37 hits per season; playing in four consecutive (2002-2005) NAIA Region VIII Championship games and advancing one time to the NAIA National Tournament. Mindy was a quiet leader on the field, setting the example for her teammates by always working very hard.
Mindy also had a great basketball career here at CU. Rader was a 3 year starter for the Golden Eagles where she was a team captain her junior and senior year. She was named 3rd team All-WHAC her sophomore year and was voted Most Improved player that year by her teammates. She was voted team Co-MVP her senior year after guiding the team to a 3rd trip to the National Tournament. Rader led the Golden Eagles to 2 “Sweet Sixteen” finishes at the National Tournament and a Runner-Up National Championship finish her sophomore year in 2002. She led the team to a WHAC championship and three WHAC tournament championships in her four year’s as a Golden Eagle. She finished 5th in career steals (161) and assists (393) at Cornerstone.
