Erler Earns Belated All-American Honors in the Marathon

(Edwardsville, IL) Even with a 6 a.m. starting time, the weather was already uncomfortable with the temperature in the mid sixties and the humidity at 98%. Juniors Nicki Erler and Janelle Lindman entered the 26.2 mile race prepared to run together and covered the first eighteen miles shoulder to shoulder working their way up to twelfth and thirteenth place. (Pharr, TX) CU junior, Katie Malinowski stepped up in distance from the usual 3,000 meter race walk to compete in the USA Track & Field 20 kilometer Race Walk Championships in Pharr, Texas. The 2008 NAIA Indoor All-American trained for nearly a year to prepare for the 12.4 mile event. (Johnson City, TN) The Cornerstone Women’s Track & Field team saved some of their best work for the final day of competition at the NAIA Indoor Championships. In the first flight of the triple jump, Kay-De Vaughn produced a school record 38’ 10.5” on her second attempt. After the second flight, Vaughn was fourth going in to the finals. Second Day at Nationals Nets Two All-Americans

(Johnson City, TN) On the second day of the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships the Cornerstone University women came up big. In the first event, the 3,000 meter race walk, Janelle Brown and Katie Malinowski went significantly faster than they did in last year’s championships. (Findlay, OH) One year ago at the Findlay Classic Andi Owens ran a school record in the 1,000 meter run. Three weeks later, senior Becca Wright took it away, running 3:04.19 at the WHAC Championship. On Saturday, Owens went to the starting line determined to at least hit the NAIA provisional qualifying standard of 3:07.00.
