Daniels Named Female Athlete of the Year

Nicole Daniels (senior from Grandville, MI) has been named 2008 Female Athlete of the Year. Daniels has served as captain for the Women's Track & Field Team the past two seasons. Nicole scored 20 points and led her team to the 2008 Indoor Track & Field WHAC Championship. Daniels holds the school record in the 60 Hurdles and set Freshmenrecords in the 60 Hurdles (indoor), Javelin (outdoor), and Heptathlon (outdoor). Junior Kay-de Vaughn won the WHAC Female Athlete of the Meet based on the total number of points she earned during the WHAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Vaughn won both the long jump (17’10) and triple jump (37’5). Her triple jump mark was a WHAC Meet record. Both of the these jumps were NAIA Automatic qualifying marks.She also earned pointsin the high jump (2nd at 5’3) and pole vault (tied for 5th with a 7’0 mark). Wortley Receives WHAC Coach of the Year Honors

Coach Rod Wortley was named WHAC Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year by the WHAC. Wortley guided the Golden Eagles to their first ever WHAC Indoor Track & Field Championship last Saturday. Cornerstone upset the favored Indiana Tech to claim the first indoor title since 2004. The WHAC didn't have enough teams to have a WHAC Championship in 2005, 2006, and 2007. Coach Wortley led the women's team to two Outdoor Championships in 2002 and 2004.

Sophomores Kendra Ross and Katey Kingsbury were involved in a three car crash that claimed the life of Ross and left Kingsbury in critical condition on Wednesday, January 23rd around 9:40 a.m. Ross and Kingsbury were on their way to Cornerstone from Ross's home in Alto when the accident took place.
