The top senior players, both men and women, from the Greater Grand Rapids area high schools and local colleges and universities will come together June 22-23 for the 2011 Champions of Character All-Star Basketball Classic at Cornerstone University.
On Wednesday, June 22, the top college seniors from both the NAIA and NCCAA will team up in a unique Pro-Am all-star game, playing against returning professional players from overseas and the NBA. The men’s college all-star team will be coached by Kim Elders, NAIA II National Coach of the Year, and Gary Bailey, NCCAA II National Coach of the Year.
Three players from CU's national championship team—Kelvin DeVries, Bryan Pasciak and Dominic Allen—will compete for the college All-Stars.
Returning professionals include Calistus Eziukwu, Jason Jamerson, Brandon Vorhees, Jeannette Woodbury, Rachel Folcik and Angel Chan.
Tip off for the women’s game is at 5:30 pm, with the men’s game starting at 7:30 pm in the Hansen Athletic Center.
On Thursday, June 23, top senior players from area high schools will compete in the high school all-star game. Several of Cornerstone’s top recruits will join the team, including Ty Mason and Andrew Ejsmont from Comstock Park, Mitch Huisman from South Christian, Conor Hogan from Catholic Central, Ian Drobish from Greenville and Justin Pepper from Wayland.
Cornerstone recruit Jill Hendrickson from Forest Hills Central will be competing in the girls’ All-Star game.
The girls’ game begins at 5:30 pm, with the boys’ game tipping off at 7:30 pm in the Hansen Athletic Center.
Tickets for both games each night are $5 per night and are available at the door. Family packs will be available for $15. Net proceeds go to the Champions of Character program, which strives to create an environment in which every student-athlete, coach, official, and spectator is committed to the true spirit of competition through respect, integrity, responsibility, servant leadership, and sportsmanship.
