Head Women’s Volleyball Coach/Professor of Kinesiology

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Head Women’s Volleyball Coach

  • Carries out all aspects of the women’s volleyball program necessary to accomplish the objectives of the sport within the university, the athletic department, the WHAC and NAIA rules and regulations
  • Oversees the development and promotion of the volleyball program
    • Provides positive Christian leadership for program
    • Fosters a sense of unity and fellowship in the athletic department and CU community
    • Establishes positive communication relationships with media and public agencies
    • Maintains communication with conference coaches and represents CU at conference meetings
    • Attends local, regional and national professional development clinics, conventions and seminars
    • Attends athletic department meetings and meets with athletic director on regular basis
    • Develops and presents proposals for program involvement
    • Maintains first aid and CPR certifications
  • Recruits and retains highly skilled student-athletes for the women’s volleyball team
    • Scout high school games and various volleyball tournaments
    • Develops recruiting list
    • Corresponds with recruits (e-mail, letters, phone calls, etc…)
    • Hosts and coordinate recruit visits
    • Encourages and promotes good teamwork and positive behavior
  • Develops the annual women’s volleyball schedule
    • Sends out and secures game contracts
    • Arranges for certified officials to referee all home matches and tournaments
    • Schedules local, regional and national NAIA teams for tournaments at CU
  • Develops, monitors and balances the annual budget for the women’s volleyball program
    • Determines fiscal requirements and prepares budgetary recommendations
    • Monitors, verifies and reconciles all expenditures of budgeted funds
    • Manage program equipment inventory
  • Orients and enforces student-athletes’ adherence to the policies and regulations of the university and athletic department
    • Provides guidance and assistance to student-athletes on a range of personal issues (physical, spiritual, emotional, academic and psychological).
    • Maintains student-athlete files
    • Maintains consistent and substantial offices hours during the week
  • Selects and supervises assistant coaches and support personnel
    • Coordinates and oversees recruiting efforts of assistant coaches
  • Coordinates and secures all travel arrangements
  • Prepares and conducts practices
    • Leads, monitors and coordinate training and practice sessions, ensuring that all safety guidelines and standards are maintained
  • Plans and administer the off-season physical training program
  • Provides special training for individual volleyball team members as required
  • Collects and analyzes tactical and statistical data of opponent teams
    • Coordinates game logistics and assists with maintaining accurate statistics
  • Designs game plans and strategies and prepares

       

Assistant Professor of Kinesiology

  • Teaches 6 credits per semester (additional courses are considered an overload); Courses to include, but not limited to the following: Wellness, Volleyball, Racquetball, Weight Training, Pickle ball, Theory of Coaching Volleyball, and any additional course assigned by the Kinesiology division chair
  • Prepares syllabi for each course in accordance with the Kinesiology Department’s goals and objectives.
  • Prepares lectures, group activities, lessons, exams and other activities to facilitate learning for academic and activity classes as required.
  • Advises students regarding course planning, internships and career planning.
  • Attend all Kinesiology Department and university faculty meetings.
  • Serves on assigned or elected committees
  • Participate in professional scholarly activities.

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Masters Degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science or a related discipline
  • Successful Experience in teaching and coaching collegiate level volleyball
  • Success in a collegiate program as either an assistant or head coach preferred
  • Good organizational, communication and coordination skill essential
  • Ability to work well under deadlines and high pressure situations
  • Ability to recruit student-athletes with potential for academic and athletic success
