I can't find something.  Where is it?
To the top of the page.

The portal is divided into views: My Eagle's Nest, Personnel, Student, etc.  My Eagle's Nest is customizable for each person; Personnel has links, forms, and documents for personnel use; Student has links, forms, and documents that students use.  Choose the view appropriate to what you are looking for.  Some personnel may have a specialized Personnel view that also includes forms used only within their department.  Some student workers may have a Student Worker view for forms relevant to their department.

Each view has tabs for the different areas of the university.  "Community" has general and frequently used items.  "Academics" has academic-related forms, links and files.  The "Employment" tab has HR items and is available only to personnel.  "University Depts" is for departments not directly serving academics.

Each tab has a menu on the left.  Use this menu to access other pages within the tab.

How do I approve forms that are awaiting my action?
To the top of the page.

When someone submits a form, a notification email goes to the next person (or multiple people, when appropriate) in line to approve or deny the form.  After that person approves or denies the form, an email notification goes to the next person, and so on, until the approval process is done.

Notification emails that go to approvers say who submitted the form, and when.  It also provides instructions for finding the form within the portal.

Notification emails are also sent to the person who submitted the form when the status of the form changes (e.g. denied, completed, approved).  In some cases it takes several individual approvals to change the form status to "approved".

Approvers and submitters may comment on a form.  This comment is stored in the form history as a permanent record for the submitter and all approvers to see.  The comment is also emailed to the appropriate person as soon as it is entered.

If a form workflow is configured to use the COMPLETED status, the last approver must approve and complete the form.  When this person views a form, they have action buttons for "Approve" and "Approve & Complete" (plus comment options).  Using "Approve" will let you complete it later (you must open the form again).  Using "Approve & Complete" will do both status changes at once.

For how long will I stay logged in?
To the top of the page.

If you check the box "Remember Me", you will stay logged into Eagle's Nest until you click sign off in the upper right hand corner, even if you close your browser.  To protect your security, make sure you lock your computer when you aren't at it.

If you do not check the "Remember Me" box, you will stay logged in for up to 8 hours of inactivity in the portal. If you close your browser you will be logged out. In Firefox, this means closing all your tabs and windows.

Why doesn't such-and-such portlet work on the "My Eagle's Nest" view?
To the top of the page.

  • The portlets for File Download require a configuration that can only be set up on the standard views.
  • The Student Discussion Board topic is only available through the "Student" view.
  • Some "content" portlets (e.g. Welcome messages) use the "Wiki Display" portlet.  Add that portlet, then click on the 'edit preferences' icon in the upper-right of the portlet, then select which content node you wish to display.
