Chapel Credit

Full-Time Undergraduate

Each student is required to attend 25 chapel programs during the semester. Students may fulfill this by attending the following programs: Large Community Chapel, Evensong, and Discipleship Groups. The university offers about twice as many chapel opportunities as are required, thus providing students many options to fit any schedule.

Reduction (Grace) in Chapel Attendance

7-11 Credit Hours

Students who are not full-time (i.e. enrolled in 7-11 credit hours) are required to attend only 12 chapels per semester.

6 Credit Hours

Students who are enrolled for six or fewer credit hours are not required to go to chapel.

Married

Students who are married are required to attend only 12 chapels per semester. The student must inform the Student Development office each semester that he or she is married in order to be eligible for this grace.

Parental Responsibility

It may be necessary for parents of younger children, who are the primary caregivers for their own children, to request a reduction in the chapel attendance requirement. The student must inform the Student Development office each semester of his/her situation in order to be eligible for this grace.

Internship

Students participating in a university-sponsored internship for class credit during the semester may subtract their internship credits from their total registered credits with regard to chapel attendance. If the final number lowers the student's total credits below 12, the student will receive an adjusted chapel requirement. For example, a student taking a total of 13 credits with a 4 credit internship would only be considered to have 9 credits that semester for the purpose of determining chapel attendance. Students taking 9 credits are required to attend only 15  chapels. It is the responsibility of the student to inform Student Development of their involvement in a university sponsored internship [e.g. __ (total CU credits) - (minus) __ (registered CU internship credits) = __ (total credits for purpose of determining chapel attendance).

Social Work or Student Teaching

Students participating in their student teaching or social work internship (i.e. starting and finishing during the same semester) are not required to attend chapel during the semester of student teaching or social work internship. Students involved in these activities must inform the Student Development office in order to be eligible for this grace.
