Where were you born?
I was born in East Jordan, MI. It’s a little town about 3 hours north of Grand Rapids!
Why did you choose to attend CU?
Coming from a town of 3500, I knew I needed to get into a bigger city. I desperately wanted a Christian foundation for my education and after months of looking around, Cornerstone fit the description. I was considering a few other schools also, but after getting on campus and seeing what a friendly environment CU had, I was hooked! I could see myself calling Cornerstone home and that is what I needed.
Who was your favorite professor and why?
I have deeply enjoyed all of my psychology professors at CU, however my favorite was Doc A (Dr. Adams). Doc A is a man who loves the Lord more than life itself and has more knowledge than any other individual I have ever met. From day one, he gained the nick name “the fire hydrant of knowledge”. Not only did he share his knowledge and wisdom, but he became a friend and a mentor. His passion for teaching and knowing the Lord inspired me to give 100%.
What are your hobbies?
When I am outdoors I enjoy skiing, hiking, biking, jogging, jet skiing and spending time in the sun! Indoors I enjoy watching movies, reading a good book, spending time with friends, and shopping!
What’s your favorite hang-out spot in GR?
I really enjoy hanging out in East Town. There are a lot of little shops, restaurants, and coffee shops to hang out in. Reed’s Lake and Collins Park are also in the area and a great place to spend a summer day!
What’s your favorite type of music?
I like a little bit of everything minus country. Lifehouse is definitely a favorite because I do lean a little more to the alternative side.
What’s your favorite part about CU?
My favorite thing about CU is the personal relationships students are able to build with faculty and staff. I was impressed with many professors who would invite students over to their houses for dinner or game nights. Life at CU is more than a classroom experience; it is learning about life and growing together in Christ. Staff and faculty mentored me through all four of my years and I cannot express enough appreciation.
Why did you choose to work in admissions?
After attending CU for four years, I just cannot leave. I want to be able to give some of the joy and blessings that I have received back by walking alongside a new class of students! The love I have seen for Jesus here is contagious and I know there are many transfer students out there who need to find this and I believe CU is the place for that.
What one piece of advice would you give to a new student?
Enjoy each day. College is more than just gaining a foundation of knowledge, it is about growing and falling in love with Christ. Cornerstone presents many opportunities for this through small group activities, Terra Firma, and other groups, so get involved! Do not neglect your studies, but DO NOT miss out on the friendships and fellowship that you can find at Cornerstone.
