Meet Dana Nixon

Where were you born?
I was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I grew up in a small town (we didn't even have a stoplight!) called Lawton . It's about an hour southwest of Grand Rapids.
What are your hobbies?
I really enjoy singing and song-writing, cozy winter days reading a good book, and I’ve discovered a new passion for cooking! But my favorite thing to do is to hang out with my husband, Nathan. He has a great sense of humor, and so we spend most of our time laughing.
What’s your favorite hang-out spot in GR?
Nate and I just discovered this great pizza place near campus called Vitale’s – they have amazing breadsticks! Just walking around our campus is a great activity, too – it is beautiful at all times of the year. Plus, Grand Rapids has such a great mix of small-town flavor and big-city opportunities – there’s something for everyone here.
What’s your favorite part about CU?
Our students have an honest passion for knowing and serving God that is incredibly inspirational. I am also continually encouraged by the servant hearts of our staff and faculty – we care a great deal about each other and our students.
What one piece of advice would you give to a new student?
Work hard, study hard, and play hard! My favorite college memories are those times that I was stretched to do things beyond what I thought I could do – giving an impromptu speech in a Communication course, getting up at 5 in the morning to work as a DJ at an on-air radio station, serving kids on a mission trip to Belize…we’re ready to make memories like this with you here at CU!
