The end is near!

Apr 30, 2009

It’s nearing the end of the semester. Things are getting kind of crazy. This is officially the last week of classes and I’m finally starting to wrap up all the final projects and assignments. It feels good to finally start to finish up these things that have been hanging over my head for so long. Then comes finals week. I have been looking toward that week and it seems that I will only have two exams, so that will be great! I don’t think anything too crazy has been happening around here lately though. Everyone’s gearing up to be all finished!

My Weekend!!

Apr 5, 2009

Just thought I’d update you on what’s going on lately. I’ve been so busy, it’s been tough to keep up. I just started coaching middle school track last week and that is going pretty well. I’m working with the hurdlers, so that is a blast for me. I helped out with it last year as well and we went undefeated, going on to win the conference championship. I’m hoping we can do that again! I had a pretty packed weekend, but at the same time seemed very laid back. Friday morning I made pancakes for all the guys in my section. We had blueberry, strawberry, cinnamon apple, chocolate chip and banana pancakes. It was pretty amazing! My room still smells like pancakes. That day I also put a team together for the dodgeball tournament, that didn’t turn out so well L. We lost. The rest of the weekend I’ve just been hanging out and getting some stuff done for the week. Got to hang out with some amazing people and enjoy the college life hanging around the dorm!

SPRING BREAK '09!!!

Mar 24, 2009

I realize that for a lot of you reading this, you have not had your spring break yet. But, for us and most colleges, spring break has come and gone and now we are back to the grindstone. This is a little bit about my journey last week!

A friend and I decided to take a little road trip down to Florida. We heard it was pretty warm around this time so we thought it would be a good break from the Michigan weather. Being poor college students we tried to take the cheapest route; driving. I have grandparents down there so we decided to drive down and stay with them (free food and housing!!!). We got down there in about 20 hours and spent the first couple of days at the beach. My grandparents have a place about 5 minutes from time square in Ft. Myers! It was beautiful weather (84 and sunny everyday). The middle of the week we took a little trip out to Orlando and got tickets to Universal Studios and my parents let us use their Disney tickets. So, we spent two filled days trying to fit as much in as we could. It really brought me back in time and I was able to experience some things from my childhood all over again. My friend had never been to Disneyworld, so he was able to capture some things from his childhood that he never did get to experience…By the time we were done there the week was almost over. We spent the last day eating out with my grandparents and relaxing by the pool. The trip back was a little long but it was great to be greeted by some 50-60 degree weather (You’re welcome, for bringing the sunshine…).

Overall, I had a great time and it was awesome to get away a little bit. It was definitely one of those experiences that I’ll remember for a long time. Maybe some of these pictures have captured my experience a little better than I can explain!

WHat am I paying for?

Mar 3, 2009

I was sitting in chapel the other day and something that our president, Dr. Stowell said really hit me. He was talking about finances and the fact that someone looking for a college could easily choose CC or a State University instead of an expensive private university like Cornerstone. One thing that he said was to think about what you are paying extra for. I began to think more about my time here at Cornerstone. I know that I have paid a lot to this school and sometimes don’t know how I have done it. Thinking back though, I realize that this community is exactly what I needed as I entered into a college atmosphere. These are some of the extra things that I realized I paid for: Cornerstone is a very intentional campus where I have been able to develop deep meaningful relationships with people my age, I have had professors that have come into my life and really shaped who I am.  It is a place that cares about who I am as an individual.  Most importantly, the ways that Christ is working on this campus has taken me from where I was in my relationship with Christ to where I am now.

I know it is different for everyone that goes here, but if you are deciding whether you want to pay a little extra, try to think of all the things you pay for! These are just a few of the things that I realized I have paid for in addition to my education and it has been worth every cent.

Where a kid can be a kid!!!

Feb 22, 2009

So, the other night I had an interesting adventure!! As some of you may know, I am an RA. We were supposed to meet as a staff and come together, so I really wanted to do something fun. I decided to take them out to Chuck E Cheese. I haven’t been there in a long time and it was a lot of fun. I was able to get some coupons online and went for really cheap. My other RA’s had a lot of fun and it turned out really well. Reminded us that even as college students, we could still be like kids!
