Alyssa DijkersMy favorite activities include hanging with friends and family, getting to know people, and talking about life. My i-pod and a good book are steady companions. I believe that diet Pepsi can brighten any day. I’m often seen in an old gray sweatshirt that is far too loved to be thrown away.
'Tis the season for many things, including Intramural Volleyball!!! Cornerstone's official team may be done playing for the season, but the fun's not over yet!
Here is a video of one of the first practices.

Every Thursday night the some of the Pickitt girls meet to study the Bible together. We have gotten to know each other a lot better through the study. We have shared our stories, prayer requests, and what God has been teaching us for the past few weeks. It’s a small group, sometimes only five or six girls, but it has been really good so far. The wonderful girl who leads the study, Libby, is a junior at Cornerstone.
When the Bible Study first started, Libby asked if we had any specific questions or areas we would want to learn more about. With a specific conversation in mind, I brought up the topic of speaking in tongues. It was something I had always heard about growing up, but I was still very unsure about what it meant and how the practice should impact my life. I know speaking in tongues was probably not on her list of possible subjects, but she was willing to figure it out with me.
With our Bibles in hand, Libby took me to Biggby Coffee shop down the road, and we looked at what Scripture had to say about the subject. She pulled out some notes she had taken from a book and had some really good information for me. Even though the topic of speaking in tongues is something I still have much to learn about, it was a really good time of digging into God’s Word and seeing what He has to say about things. This was one really good coffee shop conversation.
Walking into my service project at Sabaoth on Tuesdays is one of my favorite parts of the week. Most of the time my group arrives just in time to join in on some singing. It's so cool to see so many kids worshipping the Lord together!
Hello!
I feel that I must take this opportunity to brag about the wonderful men in my small group. If you have read anything about my dear Slate group, I hope you have gathered that we really enjoy spending time with each other. Sometimes the guys and girls meet separately during our small group meeting times. Unknown to the girls, the Slate guys met a couple of hours earlier one night and got our meeting room all set up. They even brought us chocolate! We walked in to encouraging notes to each of us left on every chair. Pretty great, right?

Don't we look so happy? :)
Well, the guys have risen to a new level of greatness. How could this possibly be, you ask? Let me tell you. Our sweet small group leader, Kelly, is having surgery on her arm this week, and the amazing guys secretly came up with a plan. Then, last time we were doing out service project, the men stood up and told us that they had a little something for us. They handed Kelly an envelope filled with money. What for? The Slate guys saved money for all of us girls to have a pampering day with Kelly before the surgery. How sweet is that?!

The Supplies...
My afternoon this past Sunday was spent at Meijer picking out nail polish (and more chocolate, all the fixings for a full pampering experience), painting fingernails, and spending quality time with the wonderful ladies in my group. Now the Slate girls have beautiful manicures courtesy of the Slate boys. I find that quite the record to brag about, don’t you? Basically, the men in my small group are amazing. It’s true.
Dear Blog-Reading Friends,
I hope you all had a restful weekend. Wasn’t the weather beautiful? I don’t know where you live, but west Michigan was absolutely gorgeous. Friday was a little chilly then it warmed right up and turned into a wonderful weekend. Who knew that Michigan weather could be so nice in November?! Like I mentioned in my last post, I had the privilege of having a good friend from home stay with me this weekend. She made an appointment with admissions for early in the day on Friday, and then we had the rest of the weekend to spend together. We had a really good time catching up a little bit and telling stories.

Chelsey, Sarah, and me
Sarah is from my home church in Farmington Hills. Tyler and Chelsey go to that church too, so it was a fun little reunion. The four of us got to eat some meals together and chat. Sarah is one of those friends who is always fun to be around. I felt bad because I was still battling this cold and feeling pretty sick, but she was great. It was totally low key. We pretty much just walked around campus, hung out, and watched movies the whole time. I am so thankful that God has blessed me with friends like Sarah who are so encouraging and sweet. Spending a weekend with her was exactly what I needed. I am feeling much better!
Well, I hope you have enjoyed the beauty of this November so far. I would love to hear from you with questions, suggestions, or if you just want to chat, maybe tell me what you have been doing to use up the last few warm days of the year. My e-mail address is at the top of the page, next to that silly picture with the 3-D glasses.
Hope to hear from you soon!
