After a long week of cramming my head with overloads of information, I enjoy curling up on my bed and watching a movie. Most of my friends have called me crazy at one point in time, which is probably a correct assessment. I enjoy being a little goofy from time to time and taking advantage of every breath given to me. I hail from New Mexico and am sure I would love long walks on the beach if I got to experience one every once in a while.

Amazonian Princess

Nov 19, 2009

I’m not sure how many of you are familiar with Amazon, but I have discovered that it is one of the most intelligent inventions. Not only have I been able to pick up some of my text books for a very low price, there have been countless golden finds that have left me smiling cheek to cheek when I get a package in my campus mailbox. But this last week I found an item that sent my heart soaring.

One of my favorite movies as a youngin was called The Princess and the Goblin. It is a cartoon movie based on the children’s book (great title for a children’s book by the way). When I fist typed in the movie title into the search box, I was pretty sure that there was no way in Heaven that it was going to be on Amazon. But alas!!! Amazon proved me wrong. There it was, in DVD format, begging for me to purchase it at the very low price of $4.89.

Many similar discoveries such as these have brought me such joy!! In coming to college, I have found that there are many others who know all about Amazon. I thought I was the only one for the longest time but there are others who have found Amazon to be one of their favorite tabs when they open up their Window Explorer.

Indeed, I have become an Amazonian Princess. Or maybe the correct term would be Amazon Addict! :)

Birthday Weekend

Nov 16, 2009

Friday.

My Birthday!!!!!!

Wake up. Walk to class with friends. Almost missed that they painted the rock for my birthday. Go me!

Go to Philosophy class. Take test. Done in 15 minutes. Felt Great!

Next class. Get ice cream sandwiches from the teacher. No homework. Awesome!

Voice lesson. Fun songs.

Go to work. Friend brings me flowers while I’m working. Boss gives me left over cinnamon roll. Sweet!

Melody and Elisa pick me up after work. Take me to dinner (which was too expensive) and paid for me. Got two large desserts and stuffed ourselves. Went to Midsummer’s Night Dream. Enjoyed immensely.

Came home. Hung out with Mark, Kristin, and Jake. Relaxing.

Took a spontaneous trip to O’Rieley’s. Kristin paid for my appetizer. Wonderful!

Saturday.

Day after my birthday!

Wake up. Go to the practice room. Practice for a couple of hours.

Go to lunch.

Dave picks Stephen and I up and heads to his home for hunting! I camo up and get some war paint on. Traverse out into the back woods and enjoy the silence while surrounded by God’s beautiful creation.

Get back in the car and head to campus.

Arrive back on campus and traverse back up to my room.

Nobody is home. I realize that Katie said to come to the 3rd floor lounge.

So onward to the 3rd floor lounge!

SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A surprise party just for me!

Best birthday weekend ever.

Reflections into the past

Nov 12, 2009

A little over two years ago, I found myself in a foreign country. I was surrounded by new sounds and the rush of a new culture, the lifeblood of which was grounded in the vibrant conversations of community gatherings.

Italy -;

No definition could touch the surface of the breathtaking scenes that swept by me in a thunderous collage of colors. Artists for centuries have tried and although some coming close, none could capture the intense beauty of God’s fingerprint on the country of Italia. My eyes became intoxicated at the towering buildings jutting out of the soft jade waterways twisting through small bridges in Venizia. Wandering pigeons cooed and swayed to the rhythm of my feet colliding with the old crackling stones beneath me. The smells wafted into the breezy air, caressed my nose, and tickled my tummy, urging me to consume the infamous Italian Gelato. I can’t even describe the frenzy that occurred when I first tasted a spoonful of Nutella gelato.

I could describe the many scenes and incredible landscapes that flow seamlessly in and through cities. But the images and memories that I hold most dear are the troubled teenagers that laughed and played futbol with us in parks. The hundreds gathered in piazzas -; thirsty — to hear the refreshing news of the One who opens eyes to see and heals the brokenhearted. The small children giggling as we embraced them knowing our eyes would never meet again.

It was a short term mission trip with a team full of unassuming teenagers. It was one summer. It was hundreds of lives touched, thousands of seeds sown, and one God.

A Lunch Date With Swords

Nov 10, 2009

History was made today with the first sword fight to take place on CU campus. Two gentlemen fully dressed in 18th century apparel exploded into an exciting dual in front of bystanders outside of the Corum. As swords gleamed against great big lunchroom windows, crashing against each other with bright thunderous tones, students gathered to watch this waiting to see how this epic battle was going to end.

Luckily for us, and all of the actors and directors of Midsummer’s Night Dream, the two men were unharmed and unscathed. They left congenial and in good spirits cheering, “Midsummer’s Night Dream will be opening this Friday the 13th!”

All of this occurred as I was on my way to class. Ecstatic, I whipped out my camera and managed to capture the entire battle.

My Soap Box of The Day

Nov 8, 2009

As a music major, one of the requirements that I have to meet in order to graduate is to give a senior recital. Every music major is required to do this. It takes hours of practice and determination to get everything done that needs to get done. Most recitals consist of 12-15 songs from a variation of genres based on the degree program. Last night I attended Nicole LaPage’s Senior Recital that was held in the Corum at 7:30 PM. I must say it was an exciting and fun performance that kept my feet stomping the ground with enthusiasm.

I would encourage everyone to make their way to a senior recital. Or maybe even a choir concert. I had a choir concert last weekend and it was so encouraging to look out at the audience and actually have an audience. As I shared with one of my friends the other day -; we may not be a sports team that you can cheer loudly to but we certainly put in just as many man hours as a team that practices. And every music major out there says, ‘Amen’! I not only encourage you to support the senior recitals or band/choir concerts, but Cornerstone University events  as a whole. We can boost school spirit if people would just go to some games and cheer on your fellow peers. I’m all about community and sharing in others joys. So if you get a chance, get out there and cheer at a game or sit back and enjoy a senior recital. It’ll be worth it I promise.

Soap Box Terminated.
