GRTS Alumnus of the Year

The Office of Alumni Relations is glad to be able to honor Dr. David Livermore as the Grand Rapid's Theological Seminary Alumnus of the Year.

Dr. Livermore is a graduate of both Cornerstone University and the Grand Rapids Theological Seminary, after which he attended Michigan State University where he earned his      Ph.D. in international education.  As an undergraduate student, Dr. Livermore studied speech communication and minored in music.  Graduating Summa Cum Laude from GRTS, he earned a master of arts degree in systematic theology.

From 2004 to 2010, David served as an associate professor of intercultural ministries at GRTS.  He taught several of the core missions courses and provided leadership in the development of the intercultural program.  Dr. Livermore also served as the executive  director of the Global Learning Center at GRTS, a student and outreach center focused on key issues facing ministry leaders in the 21st Century.  He recently moved into a new position as president of the Cultural Intelligence Center, LLC, located in East Lansing.

As a leader in cultural intelligence and global leadership, Dr. Livermore has authored a number of books, including the Washington Post business best-selling "Leading with Cultural Intelligence" and the award-winning titles, "Serving with Eyes Wide Open" and "Cultural Intelligence: Improving your CQ to Engage our Multicultural World."  In additiion, Dr. Livermore has authored four new books scheduled to be published this year: "What Can I Do?," "The Cultural Intelligence Difference," "Global Youth Ministry," and "Beyond Borders."

He has also authored numerous articles and training manuals and been interviewed by major news sources, such as CBS News, Christianity Today, The Economist, USA Today, and the Washington Post.

  

In addition to teaching at GRTS, Dr. Livermore has taught as an adjunct professor in numerous schools including serving as a visiting research fellow at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.  He has also conducted training in more than 100 countries, averaging about 35 international engagement per year addressing a total of approximately 7,500 leaders.

He and his wife, Linda, have two daughters, Emily and Grace.  They enjoy traveling and getting ice cream at Jersey Junction together.  His recent book, "What Can I Do?" is dedicated to Emily and Grace.
