Campus Blood Drive

Cornerstone students have the opportunity to save 135 lives this fall.

By donating blood during the American Red Cross (ARC) Blood Drive scheduled for Sept. 15 on campus.

“Essentially, 45 units (pints) of blood has the potential to save 135 lives,” said Zachary Ripley, captain of the cross country team at Cornerstone who was chosen to join the ARC’s Great Lakes Region Board for blood services.

In January, Cornerstone students donated 45 pints and Ripley is hoping to get the same amount or more.

The blood drive is slated for Sept. 15, from noon to 6 p.m. in the Gainey Conference Center.

Ripley received a scholarship through the ARC/NAIA Collegiate Leadership Program -; sponsored by the American Red Cross and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

One of his responsibilities is to sit on the Region Board and organize Blood Drives, he said.

“He is a great person with a huge heart for ministry and now, through his exposure to the NAIA/ARC Youth Leadership Program, has a passion for the American Red Cross and using our campus to impact not only our community but outside of Grand Rapids as well,” said Michael Riemersma, director of Cornerstone’s Champions of Character program who nominated Ripley for the scholarship.
