Cornerstone University golfer, Ben Vanbiesbrouck, scored a hole in one on the 17th hole at Stonewater Country Club Sept. 8 in the season's first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Jamboree.
At the first university chapel held Sept. 15 in the Hansen Athletic Center, Dr. Joe Stowell, president of Cornerstone, honored Vanbiesbrouck for his accomplishment and gave Titleist ProV1 golfballs with the Cornerstone logo as a gift.
Since Vanbiesbrouck was not at chapel due to an away meet today at Indiana Wesleyan University, his roommate accepted the gift on his behalf.
Vanbiesbrouck, a sophomore on the golf team, tied for second along with teammate Josh Mick with an even score of 71. Marcus Brussee was 4 over par finishing tied for 11th with a 75 along with Chet Vandenberg. Ryan Zwier chipped in 6 over par with a 77 and Alex Lanning hit an 83. The Golden Eagles finished third out of seven schools with a 292, one stroke behind Davenport (291) and Madonna finished first with 284.
Since the first Jamboree, the team has remained hot setting a school record on Friday, Sept. 11 with a team score of 285. The team won its second straight Jamboree of the season with a team score of 291 on Sept. 13. Zwier tied for first with a 71 for the day. Lanning was one over par with 72 to finish tied for 3rd. Vanbiesbrouck and Vandenberg tied for 10th with a 74. Mick was 5 over par with a 76 and Brussee chipped in with a 78. Davenport and Madonna finished the day one stroke back with a team score of 292.
Jamborees are conference meets with all WHAC teams competing. At the end of the fall men’s golf season the combined team scores of all seven Jamborees will be counted to determine a conference champion.
