Cornerstone University’s men’s cross country team moved to 11th place in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) conference Coaches Top 25 poll Sept. 22 and was able to hold onto its ranking another week.
The jump in rank came after Cornerstone’s Golden Eagles took seventh place at the Calvin Knight Invitational Sept. 19. They were previously ranked 16 for two weeks.
Eleventh is the Golden Eagle’s highest rating since the team ranked third in November 2007.
Five Golden Eagles landed personal records during the event. Alex Green finished 10th at 25:39, Stephan Larson was 19th at 25:47. Adam Looman broke 27 minutes for the first time clocking 26:52 for 54th. Jared Courtright chopped 69 seconds off his previous best running 27:00 in 60th. Travis Mabe lowered his best time to 27:25 to take 68th.
Cornerstone placed fifth out of 14 teams. Allegheny College of Meadville, Penn., won the meet with 48 points.
The next meet is scheduled for Oct 3, 2009 at the Greater Louisville Invitational.
