Record Enrollment at CU

Oct 2, 2009

Cornerstone University increased its incoming traditional undergraduate class by 32 percent and enrolled a record number of students this fall with a total of 2,825 in its programs that include traditional undergraduate studies as well as Grand Rapids Theological Seminary, Asia Baptist Theological Seminary and Professional and Graduate Studies.

The university has 108 more first-time traditional undergraduate and transfer students than last year’s 275 fall enrollment. The incoming class has 383 students.

Both the Grand Rapids Theological Seminary (GRTS) and Professional & Graduate Studies (PGS) experienced record breaking enrollment with a 14 percent increase at GRTS and 9 percent at PGS.

GRTS has 303 students this fall with PGS reporting 717 undergraduates and 377 graduate students.

Cornerstone also has 40 students in the traditional graduate program and 208 enrolled at Asia Baptist Theological Seminary.

“I am delighted that the surge in student enrollment expands our potential to send out students to influence their world as well-educated followers of Jesus,” said Dr. Joe Stowell, president of Cornerstone University. “We are deeply committed to providing a student-focused learning environment where our students thrive, and the thought of expanding that to as many students as possible is very satisfying to us.”

The new students are from 23 states and four countries.

“Adult and professional students realize the value a solid education has to their career advancement,” said Rob Simpson, associate provost of the PGS program. “In this tough economic climate, where unemployment is rather high, this is even more important. Cornerstone University’s Professional & Graduate Studies program has a very good reputation and students continue to refer other students (working professionals) to our program.”
