Accreditation

Accreditation provides assurance that a university is committed to the continuous improvement of its academic programs. Each designation shows that the college meets national standards and is held accountable for achieving its educational goals.

Cornerstone University—including Cornerstone Theological Seminary—is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The HLC approved Cornerstone for accreditation on April 13, 1977.

Business

The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) granted Cornerstone accreditation for its bachelor’s and master’s business programs in 2019. ACBSP recognizes quality business programs on a global level at the university and college level. Using the Baldridge National Quality Program, accreditation emphasizes key standards focused around themes such as strategic planning, stakeholder focus and a passion for continuous improvement.

Education

Education programs in the traditional undergraduate and Professional & Graduate Studies divisions are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). The Michigan Department of Education requires CAEP certification to ensure that specific standards and criteria be met by colleges and universities in order for their teacher education graduates to be state-certified.

Engineering

The Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.S.E.) program at Cornerstone University is seeking accreditation through ABET.

Ministry and Theology

Cornerstone Theological Seminary is accredited by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS). This membership organization consists of more than 250 graduate schools in the United States and Canada that conduct post-baccalaureate professional and academic degree programs to educate persons for the practice of ministry and for teaching and research in the theological disciplines. The Commission on Accrediting of ATS accredits institutions and approves degree programs offered by accredited schools.

Social Work

The traditional undergraduate social work program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The sole accrediting agency for social work, CSWE aims to promote and strengthen the quality of social work education through preparation of competent social work professionals by providing national leadership and a forum for collective action.

Accreditation by CSWE is given to select schools nationwide who meet stringent criteria. Cornerstone is one of less than 700 colleges and universities who meet these criteria.

Health and Wellness

Cornerstone University’s Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science program has been awarded an industry-leading initial accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

Council for Christian Colleges & Universities

Cornerstone is one of 110 colleges and universities who belong to the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU). This membership provides Cornerstone the ability to enhance the education our students receive, while maintaining our core beliefs.

Some of the benefits of membership include conferences, study-abroad opportunities and student survey results tailored to a group of like-minded institutions.

Council of Independent Colleges

Founded in 1956, the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) is an association of independent colleges and universities working together to support college and university leadership, advance institutional excellence and enhance private higher education’s contributions to society.

CIC is the major national service organization for all small and mid-sized, independent, liberal arts colleges and universities in the U.S. CIC focuses on providing services to campus leaders as well as seminars, workshops and programs that assist institutions in improving educational programs, administrative and financial performance and institutional visibility.

Michigan Academy of Science, Arts, and Letters

The Michigan Academy of Science, Arts, and Letters is a regional professional organization that facilitates scholarly exchange through annual conferences and a journal of outstanding papers. The academy’s primary activities are hosting an annual conference, usually held in March and hosted by one of its member institutions, and the publication of an academic journal the Michigan Academician.

Michigan Independent Colleges & Universities

Michigan Independent Colleges & Universities (MICU) represent non-profit colleges and universities in the state of Michigan. MICU works to raise awareness of the impact that these non-profit institutions have on education in Michigan.

MICU serves its members through government relations, public policy development and advocacy.

National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) is a governing body for collegiate athletic programs in North America. Nearly 300 colleges and universities in the United States and Canada have chosen to align their athletic programs with the NAIA.

A leader in the development of student-athletes, the NAIA is a pioneer in implementing exceptional standards for academics, diversity and character.

Phi Sigma Iota

Phi Sigma Iota recognizes outstanding accomplishment in the study or teaching of any of the academic fields related to foreign language, literature or culture. Phi Sigma Iota is the highest academic honor in the field of foreign languages.

Sigma Beta Delta

The purposes of Sigma Beta Delta are to encourage and recognize scholarship and achievement among students of business, management and administration, and to encourage and promote personal and professional improvement and a life distinguished by honorable service to humankind.

The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) is a partnership of student-focused institutions with a strong tradition and shared commitment toward academic achievement, service to our community and developing life skills through character-driven athletics.
