Matthews Performing Arts Center

Matthews Performing Arts Center, located in the Wood Seminary Building, was recently transformed into a premier venue for performing arts, and for enhanced audio production learning opportunities. In order to adequately support the university's mission, CU needed to create a performing arts venue. Unfortunately, for many years music groups had to rent off-campus venues for their concerts, as there was no suitable performance space on campus. This hindered the accessibility for many students to enjoy and benefit from the ministry of music groups. The $1.7 million renovation to Matthews Performing Arts Center provides a beautiful and functional space for concerts and recitals. This renovation is part of the larger "CU Influence" campaign for Chapel, Music and Media, which includes a $1.6 million addition to Gordon Music Hall.

A dedication concert in Matthews Performing Arts Center on February 23 featured the Cornerstone University Chorale, Chancel Singers, Credo and Symphonic Winds in the newly-renovated space.

The Music Division is focused on preparing biblically and theologically grounded musicians who will use their talents to encourage and inspire the church world-wide as well as impacting the culture at large. The music majors and minors who are currently pursuing their education in specialties like Worship Arts, Contemporary Christian Music, Classical Music Performance, and Composing and Song Writing will graduate prepared for strategic contribution to the church and the world through their gifts and talents.

This renovation includes:

Aerial clouds and shells on the stage direct music toward the audience
Baffles on both sides of the walls balance the sound
Panels in the back of the room can be opened/closed to expand/dampen the sound
