Hammond Returns to Business Division

Rachel (Cherne) Hammond (’99) joined CU at the start of the fall semester as Assistant Professor of Business. Hammond pursued a career in Banking/Corporate Training after graduation. Those experiences ultimately shaped her vision for a return to higher education. “I am thoroughly enjoying being on campus outside of class time so I can continue to build relationships with students and staff,” she says. “I also appreciate being part of a community of learners that challenge me to think more deeply about my field of study and my faith.”

Speaking about the issues she considered in returning to CU in a full-time position, Hammond says, “Any time that you are going to make a major life change, you consider what the ripple effect is going to be in the rest of your life. For me, that meant looking at how it was going to impact my family and understand if it had the flexibility I needed as a parent of small children. I also considered if it fit what is important to me in a career, including whether it was a place where I can serve and make a positive contribution to the lives of others.”

In addition to teaching, parenting, and staying involved in her community, Hammond writes for the online magazine Mom Colored Glasses. Catch her recent article: “Back to Work (lessons I am learning as a new working mom).”
