Scott Stewart (B.A. '87) is the Controller and Compliance Coordinator at Cornerstone and has been a CU employee for 30 years.
His job requires numerous responsibilities including managing the endowment and trust funds, supervising the accounting office, overseeing the property and liability insurance program, and developing university policies and procedures. He also works with auditors and management to prepare financial reports and ensures that campus departments meet federal regulations.
Following his graduation from Cornerstone in 1987 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration/Accounting, Scott started working in Cornerstone's Business Office. He received an M.B.A. from Grand Valley State University in 1992 and transitioned to the Human Resources department, eventually serving as HR Director for five years. When Vi Hager retired in 1998, he was offered the Controller position and has worked in that capacity ever since.
He has achieved Cornerstone's Outstanding Service Award twice, once as HR Director (1998) and once as Controller (2005).
During his time at Cornerstone, he has sought to stay connected with students by participating in intramural sports and teaching in Cornerstone's PGS and undergrad programs. For the past 10 years, he has also led the Monday morning prayer group that Dr. Welch started.
Scott says he relies on God every day for the wisdom and strength he needs to do his job and to be a good steward of Cornerstone’s finances.
When not at work, Scott enjoys sports like golf and swimming and spending time with his family. His oldest son, Jon, is a junior at Cornerstone and plays baseball. He also has two younger sons, Marc (13) and Caleb (12). He and his wife Sheila met at Cornerstone and have been married for over 26 years.
