More about Anna:
Have you completed an internship?
Fall 2014 I will be interning at WellSpring Lutheran Services to work in their Fostercare department. I will be going to several court cases as well as facilitating visits with families. Truly cannot wait.
What are your career aspirations?
With Social Work you can do so many different things. But what interests me most is working with children and families. Whether that be foster care, child protective services, or adoption. I feel as though my calling is to work with children who are not having the best life possible and love them as Christ would!
Why did you choose CU?
I chose CU because it was a place that truly aspired to help give me a life that made Christ the center. I stepped on this campus for a visit and knew it was a very special place. My whole high school career I was set on going to a different college, but visiting CU and talking to my Admissions Counselor really changed my mind!
My sophomore year I was a Terra Firma Group Leader for a group of 13 students. This past year I was a Resident Assistant in Babcock hall for 36 girls as well as being a tour guide and working front desk at Admissions. My senior year I will have an internship for 16 hours a week, and will be a Terra Firma Leadership Coordinator.
How do you like to spend your free time?
I love to hangout with friends and family. I also am a huge dog lover, so anytime I can spend with dogs is a good free time to me!
What did God teach you last semester?
Last semester God was teaching me a lot about trusting Him. I can have the hardest time letting Him control my life. Truly he knows what is best and I need to believe that!
What’s your favorite thing about CU?
I really appreciate how Biblical integration is incorporated into my major. Social Work can be a bit liberal, and to see my professors actively putting the Bible into their teachings is so wonderful. Not only do they give you a Christian perspective on things, but also a secular perspective so that you are very knowledgeable about the field while maintaining your own beliefs.
What’s your favorite spot on campus?
There is a rock right by our beautiful pond that is so calm and peaceful. Love going there!
What was your favorite thing about Terra Firma?
I loved Terra Firma! Mostly because of my group and my leader. Having all different kinds of students in my group made me step outside my comfort zone. We also did a service project involving students from Urban Family Ministries. We hung out with them once a week, had some incredible conversations, and played lots of games!
Many students are concerned about the sticker price of CU. How has financial aid helped make CU a possibility for you?
Financial aid is the only way that I am at CU! Cornerstone worked so well with my family and I, and made it very possible to attend here. So very thankful and blessed to have received so much financial aid.
Why did you choose your major?
I actually started off as a Learning Disabilities major, my freshman and part of sophomore year, and then through a series of events, I changed to Social Work! I realized that I truly wanted to help people in any way I could but didn't have a huge passion for teaching but more for helping. I talked to the Social Work professors and they totally convinced me that this was truly the place for me.
