Behold Our King: A Cornerstone Christmas
For Cornerstone University, the school’s Christmas concert is an annual celebration of the many blessings of Christmas. This year’s concert is centered around the theme “Behold our King” and will be held on Dec. 7 in Christ Chapel.
The CU Christmas concert will feature the Chancel Singers, the University Chorale, Symphonic Winds and Credo. Members of Cornerstone’s worship teams and a jazz combo will also contribute to the program.
Dr. Kent Walters, director of choral studies and professor of music, has directed the program for the past five years.
“This year’s concert theme comes from a vision to explore and celebrate Christmas in the broader sense of Jesus’ kingdom made possible because of His first coming and fully realized in his second coming,” Walters said. “The title, ‘Behold Our King,’ comes from a phrase in one of the songs in the program: ‘Behold Our God.'”
The program will feature a large variety of genres, including classic Christmas songs alongside newer contemporary pieces of music as well as readings and dance.
“While the concert is a major production for our music students and faculty, the concert is bigger than the Music Division,” Walters said. “Over 15 students from other academic divisions will be involved in narration and dance roles, and countless other students and staff will serve on the technical team and in support teams doing ushering, ticketing, logistical responsibilities and pre-concert music. The annual Christmas concert is an endeavor of the entire CU community.”
