This week in chapel, Dr. Evans preached about our responsibility as believers to be a witness of Christ and to attest to the truth of the Gospel. As Isaiah cried out to the Lord to “send me,” we should have the same level of conviction. We should no longer be spectators, but we are required to become an active participant and witness for the Gospel. Dr. Evans emphasized that a witness is not silent nor idle. A witness who observes the resistance of a fallen and broken world must speak up and be compelled to share the power of the Gospel.
As followers of Christ, we have the responsibility to observe how Jesus lived and then to live out his example. We must ask ourselves the question: when the moment comes, will I be called to action, or will I allow myself to be intimidated and arrested by this world that cannot give us anything but disappointment and heartbreak? Dr. Royce Evans is assistant professor of pastoral ministries and the executive director of ministry residency and the Urban Cohort program at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary. He has served in pastoral ministry for almost 30 years and continues to serve the Church through his preaching and teaching ministry. He earned his Doctor of Ministry from Western Seminary and his Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from GRTS. Dr. Evans has been married to Marilyn for 30 years and has four children and eight grandchildren.
