This week in chapel, Dr. Kenneth Reid asked the question, “why wait?” Jesus gave His disciples the great commission, but in Luke 24:45-49, He tells them to wait. They needed the Holy Spirit. It was essential that they wait for the Holy Spirit to come upon them, in order that they would be given divine enablement to fulfill the tasks God had for them.
Today, though, followers of Christ do not have to wait as the first disciples did. We are already on the other side of Pentecost. We have been given the permanent indwelling of the Holy Spirit, who gives divine enablement to fulfill the works Christ has for us. We have been given divine transformation to work out our salvation and to be sanctified daily. Lastly, we have been given divine enlightenment by the Spirit so that we may understand the Scriptures (John 14:26; John 16:12-14).
We may not have to wait as the disciples did, but we must completely depend on God. Listen to the whole sermon below.

Dr. Kenneth Reid, assistant professor of systematic and historical theology at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary, earned a Doctorate of Philosophy in Systematic Theology from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. His research interests include atonement theology, the Trinity, pneumatology, hermeneutics and biblical justice and racial reconciliation.
Outside the classroom, Dr. Reid enjoys keeping his chess game sharp, reading theology and history, watching documentaries and cheering for the Georgia Bulldogs and all Atlanta-based teams (i.e., Falcons, Hawks and Braves).
